Focus Areas

  • Strong Families
  • Access to Health Care
  • Independent Living

Our Goal

United Way of Western Maine (UWWM) supports community-based health services that improve well-being and promote independence for individuals and families. Our work focuses on expanding access to essential medical and dental care, substance use treatment, mental health services, violence prevention and recovery, independent living supports, and nutrition programs.

This work is carried out through:

  • Programs that provide essential medical and dental care for individuals who could not otherwise afford it

  • Programs that increase access to substance use treatment and mental health care for those in need

  • Supportive services and nutrition assistance for families, adults, teens, seniors, and people with disabilities

  • Interpersonal violence prevention and recovery programs that promote safety and healing

Outcomes

  • Affordable health care — including preventive, physical, and mental health services — is accessible to those who need it most

  • The social, emotional, and wellness needs of individuals are met through coordinated programs and services

  • Interpersonal violence is reduced, and its root causes are addressed through prevention strategies that help keep individuals and families safe within their communities
